HR 5882 was approved by sub-committee last month and is currently awaiting markup by house judiciary committee, once the markup is done it may be sent to the floor of congress for debate and vote

Currently, do chinese and Indians form a significant part of US population to affect diversity ? Just curious. I think one should start analyzing current US population and tabulate the % based on country of origin. Let us start with folks from UK, Italy, Ireland, Germany , Poland,..., India, China, ... . If it is found that some sections are less represented, let USA allow more into that category. True diversity.

Well..you cut your BS first..just because Its not first hand doesnt mean it is unreal..just because I posted on IV doesnt mean I expected IV to take up this case..just b'coz sucker like you saw two different lanes in the airport doesnt mean all airports are like that..I posted my experience in the airport I travelled thru..I dont have to prove to morons like you.
You dont need to be best and brightest to tell me that Airports have different lanes..Oh..yeah...how will I know..I sneaked through Texas border...I never said all ppl stand in the same lane..I said, queues are different but unless you are deaf to your a** you can hear most of the conversation..atleast I did..I dont care if you didnt in your case?
different lanes means like up to 5 to 20 lanes for only citizens and gc holders.there will be some space with the division with that belt u see in airports and then up to 5 to 20 lanes for visa holders.number of lanes differ based on the size of the airport.this is what i have seen in newark,ATL,PHI,CLT,MIA.now ur friends might be in corner lane and then there is space and then that visa holder who got sent back is also in corner lane to be able to hear if at all it is possible to hear.so now tell me which airports do not have separation like that. any one can pitch in.i could hardly hear the next person questions how come ur friend had heard in the above scenario.beats me...

I support country quota otherwise all the greencards will be taken by Indians and Chinese and the people from small countries will not even get a chance. I am sorry but of you are born on one of these countries then you have to wait before everyone who filed earlier.
If country quotas are removed in employment based category, skilled immigrants from other countries will get EQUAL chance just as skilled immigrants from India and China.
Here is a problem arising as the result of country quotas -
1.) Huge backlogs in EB green card categories
2.) Consulting companies apply for H1 for more and more people from backlogged countries because it will take 6-12 years for people from countries that are backlogged in EB green card category. This causes more backlogged EB green card categories, and more incentive for consulting companies to hire from backlogged countries. So less people from other countries are hired on H1.
As someone said on this forum, I took resume and my qualifications for the job interview, I did not take my birth certificate for the job interview. So why should the EB green card, which is a direct benefit of my employment, be judged based on where my birth certificate was issued?

Another myth: USCIS processed 60,000 485 in June. It is wrong. They processed 60,000 485 over the period of 6 months to 5 years. And they just approved in June, based on earlier processing.
In their "normal" pace they would be giving finishing touches and slowly releasing them over the course of next 12 months! Do you agree?
But they worked overnight and weekend to finish up and deny benefits to the July filers? Therein lies the problem. what do you think?

My friend was on situation. He consulted lawyer. If already change of status is applied from October 1 you will be in H1. But if you go out of country and come back before October 1st with L1 visa, you are COS will not be valid. Youcan continue in L1. But only problem is you can not switch to H1 later without stamping.

All , this subject has been raised very often and every time new members join in they start a thread and start questioning it.
- IV has indepth explored and studied this option and have found that this change is not possible administratively.
- we have not just met a lawyer. we have met few lawyers. we also have communicated with USCIS in the past.
- In the past some administrative changes have been done by USCIS, but this change cannot be done by them. All, we already had this idea long long ago and we also thought that why dont we do it if it so simple and then we dont have to go through all the legislative hurdles. But NO it cannot be done by USCIS.
- Faxing USCIS will not work. USCIS does not take policy decisions. We need to approach policy makers to get it done and that is what we are doing. By coming up with ideas, endlessly discussing despite explaination by IV and not working with IV action items we will all go in divergent directions and lose focus on the main action items we want each every member should focus. If you really feel for some idea and want to help, instead of asking IV to give explanation to every question on the forum, contact any of the active IV core members on the forum and bounce ideas. We need people with ideas and also same people willing to work on them too.
- If it was possible to get it done administratively, then in the current Skil bill push we would have/ and lawmakers would also have just asked USCIS to implement it.

But some how IV is opposed to piece meal immigration reform approach. From the beginning they IV has this grandiose dream of fixing all immigration issues. Is it time to rethink about that approach? Sure IV might antagonize ROW applicants. But aren't they already out of IV in all practical sense?
In the current economic environment, removing country quota seems like the only argument that can fly, since it does not increase actual visas.

Start from home first. Get the support of your wife to come with you to DC.
Then talk to your collegues in your company and get them to come with you. Before you strat creating divisions in IV and start a flame war with ROW, try to do those things first. That should tell you how difficult it is to get a 2 line bill.
