New Comics!

Two new comics that feature my work that I want to let you know about. One is Potlatch #7, an anthology published by Angry Dog Press. I drew a story entitled "Kissed by a Muse", which was written by Chad Lambert. The book has actually been out for a couple of months now, but I've been holding out posting about because I was waiting on copies of the book that I could sell at cons. Well, I'm still waiting on copies of the freaking thing. I have two comp copies, but apparently the publisher is having a hard time dealing with the printer. Sounds like a sucky printer to me, but what do I know? Anyway, he's working on it and I hope to get some soon.

The other book is a collection of pin-ups done by various artists for Scotty Story's book Johnny Saturn. It's a nice mix of different styles. I drew Madame Fishnet, as noted several posts back, and Scott like it so much that he used it for the cover. I was very flattered by that. Scott's a really nice guy, very genuine. If you are "Shades of Blue" fan from back in the day, you might remember that he drew the Marcus fantasy issue (#6). Go check out his stuff.

My Artwork on Fabric

A company that produces fabric for various products wanted to use some of my stuff. I put together 16 girlie faces, some pre-exiting, some altered and some new. Here's what I did. I'm guessing they'll probably bump them all up next to each other. They're supposed to send me a website where products are available with this style once it's up and running. When I get the link, I'll post it.

Affordable Man!

Knockin' out High Prices! I was hired to do a bunch of illustrations of Affordable Man, super hero of Affordable Home Furnishings, a rent-to-own company in Louisiana and Texas. Here are some of the images, as well as some screen captures from a commercial he is featured in.

Dog Food Productions in the Finals Again

Somehow, the judges of the Video Association of Dallas 24 Hour Video Race have let DFP slip through to the finals for the 2nd year in a row. Last year we actually managed to nab 3rd place in our division. I'm not sure if we'll be that lucky again this year or not. The competition is pretty strong. Our film is entitled "Community Service" and this years race requirements were:

Theme: Twist of Fate
Location: Anywhere a sport is played
Prop: A key
Line of dialogue: "What's this going to cost me?"

Has Disney ripped-off "Shades of Blue" with "Bolt"?

Who knows? But man, that costume looks really, really similar to me. Combat boots, stripey tights, black shorts, tight t-shirt. Am I imagining this? What do you think? Call the lawyers?

Firefly / Serenity Browncoat T-Shirts

I've recently gotten back into Firefly. I really hadn't watched it since I finished off the DVD set a couple of years back. I think I was too annoyed that it got cut short. Well, I dumped all the episodes on my iPod and realized how much I really dig this show. If you've never watched it, treat yourself. Anyway, I came up with this Browncoat design that I really like and decided to make some products out of it. Right now I have some t-shirts set up (mens and womens in different colors). I plan to more products and different Firefly designs. I might even make the entire cast out of this style. And I'm also gonna start drawing Firefly characters at cons, since I never really see artist doing that.

Visit my store for the Browncoat design.

24 Hour Video Race 2008

For the 5th year (well, not in a row), me and my cohorts from Dog Food Productions are entering the Video Association of Dallas 24 Hour Video Race. If you don't know what that is... teams of filmmakers race to make a 5 minute (or shorter) film in 24 hours. We meet at a central location at midnight this Friday and are given elements that we have to incorporate into the final film. A theme, a line of dialogue, a prop and a location. We have to meet back at that location before midnight Saturday, tape in hand. Last year we won third in our division. Our only goal is to finish on time and make a funny film. Placing or winning is just icing on the cake. But We like icing.

More Drawings from the Mac Grill

Back at the Macaroni Grill again last month. I just can't sit there with a blank canvas and a hand full of Crayolas. I gotta draw something. If you compare these drawings with the previous Mac Grill ones I posted, I imagine they'll look fairly similar. It's my MG MO.. mobster types. I wonder what I'll draw once baby Jack is sitting there with us? Probably still mobsters.

Wow.

Iron Man was awesome. Every comic book movie from here on out has got the blueprint to work from.

New pieces I'll have at CAPE

I've been in an Iron Man mood lately, hmmm, wonder why? I'll probably try to knock out a couple of more before the show. The Iron Man with the sky, the X-23 and the Wolverine are all large 14" x 17" piece. The rest are 9" x 12"
