just spoke to someone at the apple store in the grove, they said grove security wont let people line up till 7am but i still plan on getting their earlier... also the parking structure is open 24/7 so you can enter at any time

In OS X you can literally control just about any aspect of the the operating system via terminal. I would argue that an expert *nix user has more "unrestricted control" over OS X than an expert windows user can have under XP.

Hey I'm looking into buying a preferably new Macbook or Macbook Pro. I need one soon as I'm moving out for my freshman year of college. The two things I'm mainly concerned about is 500+GB, and 4GB Processor. I was wondering what might be some good places to begin looking for the right laptop.

Seems that Safari or network is about 10% what it used to be in speed. I recently add the MacUpdate Spring Promo package, and seems some of the programs are POC. Not sure if this is part of the problem because the slowdown happened beore that install I think.
OK. Used Tech Tool Pro. All smart status checks ok. All 6 disks check ok. So not a disk problem since it happens on all disks.

I am seriously considering camping out as I REALLY want one as soon as possible... Has anyone been at this location for a launch before? Is it pretty popular? I was hoping that maybe it wasn't as popular of an Apple store and that the lines would be shorter... that and I live in Oakland about 5 minutes away!

I like. Since I've got the Speck PixelSkin HD right now I wouldn't mind if it's bulky. If the kickstand is removable and the price is reasonable I'd get one. Really feeling the black/red colorway.

I have a white MB and an iPad. They get used for different things...MacBook is for schoolwork, ripping DVDs and hosting my iTunes library, mostly. iPad is for browsing on the couch, reading books, and traveling.
I wouldn't give either of them up, but I am considering getting an iMac instead of a MBP later this year when it's time to replace the aging MB. I like the flexibility of being able to bring a real computer to the coffee shop or to class, though, so I'll probably go with a 13" MBP.

Its now 9.50 and the queue is forming well infront of the Apple store,touchwood. I have heard rumours abound that white models are limited and iPad stock isn't as many here as the bigger london stores, so if your planning to be a late comer cancelled your meetings, leave work early or just cry off ill, because your going to be waiting in line a long time and your going to be very angry if stock has gone. people started turning up near 6.30am and the line is getting bigger.

Do you think the online reservation scheme is to better gage how much inventory they will possibly need at any given Apple store on opening day? I would be surprised if they had 2 separate lines. One reserved and one for those who did not reserve. That would be too smooth.

What will you be using it for? I always suggest the Mac mini as the "switcher machine." But a Power Mac G4 will also be nice, especially since it is easy to upgrade.

I jailbroke it because now I can add cydia apps that bypass some shortcomings of the native iPad (password protecting specific apps, mail enhancements, widgets, etc)
In my second post on this thread, I stated that I just reset the iPad and still have the same problem.
Just go to an Apple retail store, they'll fix it for you. Worst case scenario you'll get a replacement but since you jail broke the device, it may void the warranty without the exception of this issue. You don't seem to be clear enough of your problem.
Did you have this issue of the apps icon disappearing before you jail broke it? If you did, why didn't you go to Apple to look at it for you?
Or... Did this happen after jail breaking and the problem still persists even after factory reset?

This can't be stressed too strongly. As we've said repeatedly, the malware that exists for Mac OS X can be avoided/thwarted by a user exercising common sense and having some education. The primary weakness of any computer is not the OS being used, but the user. Prudent computer users can't simply install some anti-virus app and think they're protected against any threat. Anti-virus isn't the solution. A Mac user who is aware of what kinds of malware exist and what kind of behaviors expose them to risk can operate malware-free without the need for anti-virus software.
