Dallas Comic Con Aftermath

I had a great time at the Dallas Comic Con this past weekend. Ben and Mark really outdid themselves. I hope this con fills the void left by Wizard World Texas, I think it eventually could. The show was packed and I drew non-stop on Saturday, it was crazy, the busiest I've ever been. I believe the final tally was ... 21 Pre-Drawn Sketch Cards, 6 New Sketch Cards, 4 Pre-Drawn Color Sketches, 14 New Color Sketches, 8 New BW Sketches, 1 Shades TPB, 3 Prints.

Obviously, the Sketch Cards were a big hit since I sold almost half of them. I'm definitely gonna keep doing them, I think it's an affordable way to get a full color original piece of art. I'm on a GI Joe kick right now, so I've been doing Dr. Mindbender, Major Bludd, Firefly, Torch, Lady Jaye, Spirit, Eels, Tomax, Xamot, Cobra Commander (hooded) and more. I also need to replace my Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes and Baroness that sold at the show. I'll also be working on some Star Wars cards too.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, I appreciate it. Here are some of the pieces I did during the show...

Other Artists on Spookytown

I've been collecting original art of other artist's take on Spookytown characters. If the artist is a friend of mine, I've been lucky to work out a trade, sketch for sketch. If they're someone I'm not on personal terms with, I've paid for the commission. Any artist that would like to trade, drop me a line. Reference material here.... http://www.spookytown.net

More Color Sketch Cards

Here are the last of the first batch of cards that I will be selling at conventions. I like the GI Adventure Teams guys, Emma Frost and Lobster Johnson a lot out of these. In just over a week I did 45 of them. Also, here's a shoot of all of them in their little plastic sleeves.

Color Sketch Cards

I've been knocking out a bunch of these trading card size color sketches to sell at shows. I'll have these at the Dallas Comic Con this weekend. They each come in their on hard plastic sleeve too. I really like Storm Shadow, Yoda, Black Canary, Slave Leia, Catwoman, Gi Joe Adventure Team Guy, Zatanna and Destro. And these are a lot of fun to do, I'm getting addicted to it. I should have more by the end of the week.

Rockstar Creator

This was a cool project I did last year. It was for TIGI, the company that makes hair products, like Bead Head. They wanted to have a website where people could create their on rockstar avatar. Similar to what I did for the Hot Topic Halloween E-Card. Unfortunately, it never went live, but they were cool enough to let me use it for my portfolio.

So I had to create a total of 4 body shapes, 20 different eye, nose, mouth, eyebrow designs, 47 hair styles, 5 one-piece outfits, 10 outfit bottoms, 8 outfits tops, 4 guitars, 2 large accessories (cape and wings) and a bunch of small accessories and piercings. They wanted weird, wild, over-the-top styles. And they had to be built were the person could change the base color and highlights. Labor intensive to be sure, but still fun.

Heroes4Heroes

I did these a while back and I don't think I ever got around to posting them. These are two logo treatments for a group called Heroes4Heroes. From their website...

We work directly with members of the United States Military, corporations, and the general public to provide portable media to active troops in order to boost morale and keep our men and women in uniform culturally tuned-in. We gather, organize, and send entertainment material such as comic books, DVDs, CDs, books, magazines, MP3 players, and game systems to our Heroes.

Art Love Magic

Me and my buddy Michael Lagocki, Ghostwerks member and founder of Art Love Magic are doing a pin-up swap. He's doing a Spookytown piece for me and here's the one I did for him. It's his muse/mascot, named Haley. Reference image here. If you're an artist, musician, poet or are just into all things creative, be sure to look into what he's doing. It's fairly rad.
